The more, the merrier they say. Soon this might be the case with NJ Sports betting online. The competition is getting stiffer as 2 more operators are expected to join the other 8 in the Garden State, making the retail sportsbooks in Atlantic City to become 8 in total.
Tropicana and Hard Rock Atlantic City appealed the New Jersey Division of Gaming Enforcement (DGE) to open sportsbooks. The casinos will be able to receive wagers both onsite and online if the waiver is allowed.
What are the chances for both casinos to have their waivers granted and launch the next NJ online casinos? Pretty big if you ask us. If we judge from past experience, it can take just a few days.
The only question seems to be if Hard Rock or Tropicana will be the next NJ online casino to accept wagers and contribute to NJ Sports betting online industry.
Аbout Hard Rock Online Casino
Although sports betting wasn’t a main priority at first, when Hard Rock Atlantic City casino opened, it doesn’t mean that they never thought about it.
Prior the launch, the AC casino’s president Matt Harkness stated that they are definitely thinking about offering sports betting in the near future.
Considering that the property opened in June, it looks like the time is now.
Just before petitioning for a waiver, Hard Rock AC partnered with Gaming Innovation Group (GiG). This will be the Group’s first attempt to enter into NJ online sports betting.
GiG’s press statement about the new collaboration hinted that this will happen at the end of 2018. There was a Letter of Intent between Hard Rock and Gaming Innovation Group Inc., aimed to provide a cross-channel sportsbook platform in the New Jersey property. It main goal is to put the plan for launching a NJ sports betting online into effect.
The cooperation acts as an addition to the NJ online casino pact between GiG and Hard Rock. It’s not the first one, as both traders succeeded in a NJ online gaming launch this June, when Hard Rock online casino unlocked its virtual doors.
The mentioned “cross-channel” or “omni-channel” suggests that the newly opened sportsbook in Hard Rock Atlantic City will be both on-site and online. There is a possibility that a retail sportsbook is planned as well, although the precise spot isn’t disclosed yet.
Hard Rock AC Casino is operating for a few months now, so chances are they are already looking forward to the possible sports betting revenue.
About Tropicana Sports Betting
Steve Callender, the manager of Tropicana shed light on the sports betting possibility in a press release. He talked about the existence of a newly opened location within the North Tower Casino, created with the purpose to accommodate sports betting, and promised to reveal more information about Tropicana AC sportsbook soon.
There is an even clearer signal that Tropicana will open its sportsbook after receiving the transactional waiver. And the indication is the already established contract between sportsbook operator William Hill and the AC Tropicana casino and it’s new holder Eldorado.
Actually, the first NJ sports betting online wager was at William Hill. The operator is already in a partnership with Ocean Resort Casino and Monmouth Park, managing 2 online sportsbooks and one retail.
Besides opening a sportsbook, Tropicana AC is also going through some big changes recently. One of them was the online casino employees dismissal on the next day after Eldorado became an owner of Tropicana. How this decision will impact the NJ online sports betting remains unclear. But it indicates the company’s swift reaction to situations where money is involved.
Which Will Be The Next NJ Online Casino in Atlantic City?
We strongly believe that Tropicana will be the next NJ online casino. There are several reasons behind this conclusion.
The paradox is that Hard Rock gave the most obvious one in the press release about the newly established collaboration between Hard Rock online casino and GiG. It stated that they consider to launch the sportsbook at the very end of the year. We bet that Tropicana won’t be that patient and will probably do it fist.
Another reason lies in the fact that Hard Rock was very clear about their future endeavors prior to the opening day. There were press headlines that even Ocean Resort Casino opening wasn’t able to undermine.
In reality, just a small part of all those previous plans was announced at the official opening. This could be a sign that Hard Rock needs more time to launch its NJ online casino and doesn’t feel obligated to reveal all their plans yet.
Contrary, Tropicana has already designated a sportsbooks venue with kiosks and everything needed, which makes it a few steps ahead in the launch.
These signals clearly show that Tropicana will be able to take wagers before Hard Rock AC and we are just waiting for the public announcement of the next NJ online casino.
